A New Path

The candle's flame glows brightly,
The yellow flame dances
Amidst God's gentle breath,
And fills the darkened church,
God's spirit fills this holy place,
His music resounds
I sit here blanketed in His light and voice,
And give thanks for the blessings He has given me.

Dear God, I thank you for the gifts you send my way,
You filled my soul with pain so I could feel,
You gave me fear so I could know safety,
You gave me violence so I could know peace,
You gave me strength so I could survive evil people,
You gave me intelligence so I could learn from my past,
You taught me that I am good and deserving of your love.
You led me from a childhood of pain and oppression,
And introduced me to a world filled with sunshine.
This journey has been long,
But when I think of your world,
My painful trek is nothing more than a blink of an eye,
and I look forward with excitement
at the wonders still to come.
